Summer in the City can never be dull with the British Council summer programme for children. Encourage your child to come and discover the world with our flexible one-week courses in a relaxed and fun English-speaking environment! 

Your child will be guided to learn about the lives of princesses and knights, discovering fascinating legends and mythical creatures, exploring the solar system and uncovering the world we live in and its curiosities. What are you waiting for? Let your child join the summer fun now!

The programme is structured in one-week stand-alone modules. The lessons are story-based and separated into lower and higher literacy and fluency abilities. Each day in a module consists of 2 hours of English classes and 2 hours of additional activities: arts, crafts and projects.

Themes

  • Knights, Castles and Princesses
    Week 1 (24 - 28 June), Week 6 (29 July - 2 August)
    or Week 11 (2 - 6 September)

Knights, Castles and Princesses focuses on the theme of exploring major styles of castles and fortifications. Did you know that a boy born into a knight’s family at the age of 7 would be sent to another castle where he trained to become a knight?

This week the children will learn about the motte-and- bailey, stone keep and concentric castles, medieval defence and assault tools, as well as life as a knight; will learn relevant vocabulary and practise it through games and learn songs related to the theme; will complete a series of projects, arts and crafts activities and worksheets.

  • Bizarre Nature
    Week 2 (1 - 5 July) or Week 7 (5 - 9 August)

Bizarre nature focuses on the theme of nature phenomena. Thunders, tornados and other amazing things await to be discovered. Have you ever seen a lunar rainbow?

This week the children will talk about natural feathers, the weather, and natural phenomena; will learn relevant vocabulary and practise it through games; will learn songs related to the theme and will complete a series of projects, arts and crafts activities and worksheets.

  • Become a Space Explorer!
    Week 3 (8 - 12 July) or Week 8 (12 - 16 August)

Become a Space Explorer! focuses on the theme of space exploration, the solar system and our galaxy. Do you believe aliens are real?

This week the children will talk about space, planets, rockets, and space exploration; will earn relevant vocabulary and practise it through games; will learn songs related to the theme and will complete a series of projects, arts and crafts activities and worksheets.

  • Legends and Mythical Creatures
    Week 4 (15 - 19 July) or Week 9 (19 - 23 August)

Legends and Mythical Creatures focuses on exploring the topic of mythical creatures and mighty warriors throughout famous legends. Was King Arthur real or just another legend?

This week the children will learn about myths and legends such as ‘King Arthur’, ‘Beowulf’, ‘Medusa’, ‘The Loch Ness Monster’; will learn relevant vocabulary and practise it through games; will learn songs related to the theme and will complete a series of projects, arts and crafts activities and worksheets.

  • Travelling Around the World!
    Week 5 (22 - 26 July) or Week 10 (26 - 30 August)

Travelling Around the World! focuses on the theme of exploring different places and geographical features. Do you know how many countries are there in the world?

This week the children will talk about geographical features, the world and places in the world; will learn relevant vocabulary and practise it through games; will learn songs related to the theme and will complete a series of projects, arts and crafts activities and worksheets.

  • Levels

    The courses are open to children aged 8 to 10, who have studied English for at least one year.

  • Age requirement

    8 - 11 years old on 30 September 2019

  • Programme

    Each theme is one week long.

    Lessons and activities are from Monday to Friday, as follows:

Costs

The cost per module is 550 RON.
Prices include all the stationery and materials required for all the lessons and activities. 

Registration

All participants must have their level of English language fluency assessed through a free placement test offered by the British Council. Please, book a level test here.
