Measures in our teaching centres - information for parents

Schedule and class-size

  • We are adjusting class schedules to avoid overcrowding.
  • To allow for 1m physical distancing we are limiting the number of students in our classrooms to 10-14 depending on the size of the room. All students will have their own individual desk, except for some LTT classrooms where the students will share a large desk but remain 1m apart.

Access to the premises

  • Only parents of Learning Time with Timmy students will be allowed to accompany their child into the premises.
  • We will be issuing further information on arrangements for the first lesson to ensure everyone is able to get to their classroom.
  • To avoid overcrowding, your child should arrive for class no more than 5 minutes before the start of the lesson. When they enter the premises, they will have their temperature checked and will then be required to sanitise their hands. They should go straight to the classroom following the directional arrows, respecting physical distance and obeying any instructions given by our staff.
  • Upon entering the classroom, they should proceed directly to their seat.

Breaks

  • Before going to the toilet, your child should disinfect their hands. Upon finishing they should wash their hands thoroughly with soap and water, drying them on paper towels and discarding the towel in the receptacle provided.
  • Students attending a three-hour class will remain in the classroom during the break (unless they need a toilet break). We will have staff to monitor them during this period.

At the end of the lesson

  • Secondary students and parents of Learning Time with Timmy students will depart the premises immediately after the class.
  • Arrangements for the collection of Primary students will be provided before the first class.

Wearing of masks

  • Except for pre-school children, masks must be worn at all times on the premises.Your child will need to come to class with a new/clean mask for each lesson. There will be bins in each classroom for your child to discard an old mask before putting on a fresh one.
  • In addition to wearing a face mask, some teachers may be wearing a face shield.

Cleaning regime

  • All classrooms will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before and after each class.
  • Toilets, washbasins, door handles, staircase handrails and other surfaces will be cleaned and disinfected every two hours as a minimum.

If your child is unwell / someone is tested positive for Covid-19

  • If your child has Covid-19 like symptoms or is otherwise unwell, they must remain at home.
  • We reserve the right to refuse entry to anyone who is unwell and will arrange for a child who shows symptoms of illness in the classroom to be taken out of the classroom and immediately collected.
  • If a direct family member with whom your child lives tests positive, your child should remain at home. If your child tests positive, please inform us immediately.
  • If a student/teacher tests positive, we will follow the government regulations requiring that we temporarily suspend the affected class(es), switching over to the online platform for the duration.
  • Any teacher/student who tests positive will require a doctor’s certificate confirming that they are no longer infectious before being allowed to return to the British Council.

Additional health and safety provisions

  • If your child has any kind of special need which might make it difficult for them to meet any of these requirements, please let us know so we can make the necessary accommodations.
  • In the interests of minimising the communication of infection, we will not be providing drinking water at the present time. Students should therefore bring their own water.
  • Premises will be deep-cleaned and disinfected before the resumption of classes. Air conditioning units have been deep-cleaned and serviced to ensure they provide proper ventilation.
  • Classroom windows and doors will be kept open between classes and during breaks to maximise natural ventilation.
  • There are hand sanitisers throughout all our buildings and in every classroom.
  • We have directional arrows and distance markers in place to ensure physical distancing.
  • The number of seats available for waiting has been reduced.

Partner premises

  • We are working closely with our school partners to implement the above measures. Any variations will be communicated before the start of the course.

Measures in our exam venues

The health of our test takers and staff is our priority. Before we open any test centre:

  • We ensure that we are following all local government safety guidelines as well as those of the British Council.
  • We brief our test centre staff so they are up to date on what to do and how to prepare for the arrival of test takers.

We have put the following measures in place to make our test centres as safe as possible:

  • Test venues will be cleaned thoroughly prior to each test session.
  • In the case of computer-delivered tests all equipment will be sanitised prior to each session.
  • Our staff will be wearing masks.
  • You will be required to wear a mask at all times whilst you are in a test centre, and maintain physical distance at all times.
  • If you would like to, you may also wear latex gloves although this is not required.
  • We will provide sanitisers throughout the test venue and we ask that all test takers use them regularly or wash their hands to help ensure a safe environment.
  • We will not provide pens or pencils to test takers who will be asked to bring their own stationery on the test day.

We have prepared a declaration form (available below - 'Downloads') for parents / adult candidates to fill in and sign prior to their exam.
