Enjoy the 2021/2022 Royal Opera House cinema season, brought to you in Romania by Happy Cinema Bucharest! Straight from the iconic stage in Covent Garden, great British and international artists will perform six landmark works from the repertoire of the Royal Ballet and the Royal Opera House.
The season begins with Peter Wright's spectacular production of The Nutcracker, followed in early 2022 by Puccini's Tosca, with the famous set designs by Paul Brown, and Romeo and Juliet by Kenneth MacMillan, a classical adaptation of Shakespeare's play set to the music of Prokofiev. The season then continues with the anniversary screening of Rigoletto by Verdi, on celebrating the 171st anniversary of its premiere in 1851. This version will be Oliver Mears' first production since he became director of the Royal Opera in 2017 and will be broadcast in cinema in March 2022.
Verdi's La Traviata, directed by Richard Eyre will be screened in April, and Swan Lake in May 2022. Considered a masterpiece of classic ballet repertoire, Swan Lake brings John Macfarlane's design and returns to the stage after being interrupted last year due to the pandemic.
Happy watching at Happy Cinema!
