Happy Cinema joins over 1500 cinemas around the world that will delight their audiences with the Royal Opera House season and will broadcast by satellite from London, Covent Garden, a selection of the 12 most loved shows from the classic repertoire "The Royal Opera" and "The Royal Ballet".

Upcoming show: Rigoletto

The upcoming show from the Royal Opera House and the Royal Ballet 2017/2018 Season, Rigoletto, will be screened on 21 January, starting 16:00, at Happy Cinema Bucharest.

Giuseppe Verdi wrote in 1855 that Rigoletto, based on Victor Hugo’s play Le Roi s’amuse, was his ‘best opera’. Rigoletto was performed 250 times in the next 10 years and has remained one of the most popular of all operas.

David McVicar’s production highlights the cruelty at the heart of the court of Mantua. The opera’s many musical highlights include the ebullient ‘La donna è mobile’, in which the Duke boasts of his disregard for women; The exquisite, plangent duets and the gorgeous Act III quartet beautifully weave the voices together as the story quickens to its shattering conclusion.

Approximate duration: 2 hours and 45 minutes, with one break.

Sung in Italian with English subtitles.
