Shiraz Cine-Concert

Enjoy a new edition of the Shiraz Cine-Concert (film screening and live performance from Foley'Ala) organized on July 26 at the Histories and Film Festival in Rasnov.

Shiraz: a Romance of India, directed by Franz Osten, is an epic silent feature based on the story of Mughal ruler Shah Jahan, his queen and the building of the world’s most beautiful monument to love: the Taj Mahal. Made in 1928, and shot on-location in Agra, Shiraz features an all-Indian cast, produced by and starring Indian cinema pioneer Himanshu Rai. The film tells the love story of the 17th century princess Mumtaz Mahal, and the subsequent construction of the Taj Mahal in her honour.

The British Film Institute's National Archive restored the Indian/ British/ German co-production Shiraz in 2017.

Foley'Ala Band means:

  • Alin Zăbrăuțeanu – foley, electronics, live processing
  • Alexandra Andrieș – voice, electronics, percussion
  • Maria Petrescu – oboe
  • Radu Rădescu – percussion

Special Guest: Irina Margareta Nistor – Voice of the Movies

Foley'Ala is a band born in 2013 as an ad-hoc formula of live scoring & sound design for silent film screenings. The band creates an original acoustic ambient, played live as a quasi-improvisation in order to (re)build the soundtrack for films that have marked the history of cinema. The solution found is close to the particular approach of solving radio theater sound mixing (live foley), where, over a prefabricated layout, processed acoustic musical elements interfere with digital sampling techniques, combined with played instruments. By the use of electronics (live processing), the band seeks to achieve unprecedented exploration areas, specific to synthesizer’s era.
