Hello and welcome to the British Council in Romania!

We’ve been part of Romania’s story since 1938, building connections, understanding and trust between people in the UK and Romania. It’s a legacy we’re proud of and one we continue to shape through new partnerships, fresh ideas and a shared commitment to creating a better future.

As the UK’s organisation for cultural relations, our purpose is simple: to support peace and prosperity by creating opportunities for collaboration, learning and mutual respect. In Romania, that means offering high-quality English language provision, supporting the internationalisation of higher education and working closely with the arts and creative sectors to promote dialogue and inclusion.

We’re especially proud of our work on trauma-informed teaching, helping educators create safe, inclusive spaces for learners navigating uncertainty and change. And we’re passionate about helping young people access life-changing opportunities through UK assessments and internationally recognised qualifications that open doors to education, careers and global networks.

Our vision is a more peaceful and prosperous world built on trust and we believe trust begins with people. With our partners across Romania, we’re working to make a meaningful and lasting contribution.

Thank you for visiting our site. I hope you’ll take a moment to explore what we do and find something that inspires you to connect, collaborate or get involved.

Abdi Hassan,

Country Director, British Council Romania
